Soviet space program - Kosmicheskaya programma SSSR
Soviet space program or officialy called Kosmicheskaya programma SSSR was one of the most important science and technology programs by which USSR has shown to the rest of the world how technologicaly advanced USSR are. The "space competition" started in the mid fifties and Soviet Union was for a more than a decade the leading country. The most significent achievements were the first satellite in space - Sputnik 1, first animal in space - dog Laika, first human in space - Jurij Gagarin on Vostok 1, first woman in space - Valentina Tereshkova - Tschaika on Vostok 6, first EVA - spacewalk by Alexei Leonov on Voskhod 2, first uncrewed lunar soft landing, first space rover - Lunohod (moonwalker), etc..
Proudness to the Soviet space program in the Soviet Union and later Russia was obvious also in the soviet/russian watch industry since a lot of watch factories renamed itself in the sixties to names connected to space program. Raketa (rocket), Poljot (flight), Čajka (Tschaika) - flight name of Valentina Tereshkova, Vostok (after the Gagarin ship) are the most obvious examples. So in fact in it's widest term all watches with stated brands would fit into this collection, but I decided not to do that. This goes on even today (brand Buran, company Kosmos,...). Of course hundreds of watch models had or still have Gagarin as an iconic figure on the watch, his flight was and still is a constant inspiration for the new watch models. But Gagarin is far from being the only one. My collection is just a short overview of all this.
I tried not to, but I was forced to do several subcategories of this collection. I hope they are intuitive enough and self explanatory. Hope this another click into the adequate submenu is not too confusing.
